[[휴스턴]]에 이어 텍사스 주에서 두 번째로 인구가 많으며, 미국 내에서는 [[인구순 미국의 도시 목록|일곱 번째로 인구가 많은 도시]]이다. [[2005년]]의 인구 조사를 기준으로 인구는 1,256,509 명이다.
